Re: Update on Strike Action
Wed 25 Jan 2023Dear Parents and Carers,
Re: Update on Strike Action
I am sure you will be aware from recent media reports that the National Education Union (NEU) has declared strike action for teaching staff in both February and March. The NEU have informed the Government that the following dates will likely be affected by strike action:
- Wednesday 1st February
- Wednesday 1st March
- Wednesday 15th March
- Thursday 16th March
While the planned action is as a result of a national dispute between the unions and the Government, and not the school, it is important that we respond accordingly in the interests of our students whilst respecting the rights of our staff. Therefore, my aim is to give you as much notice as possible of the likely impact of the strike action on the school. Whilst the March dates are still some way ahead of us, I am able to let you know what our plan is for Wednesday 1st February.
- On Wednesday 1st February 2023, the school will remain open and operate as normal and is open as usual to all students.
As I explained at the start of this letter, the NEU has indicated that there is further strike action planned for the 1st March, 15th and 16th March. Please make a note of these dates now and I will write to you in advance of each date to confirm any changes to arrangements and whether the strike is going ahead.
If you have any questions or concerns about the alternative arrangements outlined above, please do contact us.

Re: Strike Action in Schools
Thu 19 Jan 2023Dear Parents and Carers,
Re: Strike Action in Schools
I am writing to you to confirm that the largest teaching union, the NEU, announced the intention to hold strike action in schools. It appears the dates which will affect our area of the country are the following:
● Wednesday 1 February
● Thursday 2 March
● Wednesday 15 March
● Thursday 16 March
This news was announced on Monday and further adds to the scale of strikes across many areas of the Public Sector.
In the meantime, be assured as a school, we will focus on our pupils as the priority; to make sure they know what they have to do to be successful in the term ahead.
In terms of impact on specific days, now that we know more we will start to map the impact and what contingency or alternatives can be arranged.
I hope you appreciate this is not a quick task and needs careful thought. We will be in touch regarding any rearrangements of events or restricted opening as soon as we are able.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

OFSTED JUDGE SCHOOL AS GOOD
Tue 10 Jan 2023Dear Parents and Carers,
Re: OFSTED Report
I am delighted to be able to share with you the report from our recent Ofsted inspection, which judged our school as good in all areas.
The report is clear that the school has many strengths which include:
- Leaders have worked hard to improve the culture of the school and have high ambitions for pupils.
- Teachers have received high quality training to help them implement leaders’ ambitious curriculum.
- Pupils feel happy and safe because adults are caring and kind and know pupils as individuals. Adults care deeply about them.
- Pupils’ positive behaviour means the school is a calm and purposeful place.
- Lessons run smoothly and are rarely disrupted.
- Making sure that pupils learn to read takes top priority.
- Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities learn the same ambitious curriculum as their peers.
- The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Leaders have established a culture of vigilance through strong systems and processes.
- Members of the local governing board work in harmony with trust leaders to challenge and support school leaders.
I feel that the report provides an accurate snapshot of the current provision here at Willow Brook and reflects the positive experiences and progress of our pupils.
It also recognises the incredible amount of hard work that all the staff have put in and their contribution towards that judgement.
As we continue on our journey to raise standards and ensure that all our pupils are fully equipped and prepared for the next stage of their lives, we thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Yours sincerely
